The Vice - Chancellor

 

Dear Colleagues,
Greetings!

I deem it a great pleasure as well as privilege to write to you as the new and 14th Vice- Chancellor of Madurai Kamaraj University, the University with potential for Excellence, one of the oldest and biggest in the entire nation, reaccredited by NAAC at the A Level (89%) My. Priorities will be to ensure transparency in administration and a research – friendly, conducive academic climate. I always stand for Participatory Management with “Bottom- up” Approach and Collective Wisdom rather than the Helicopter model with “Top – Down” Approach. Consolidation of the past and Strengthening of the future will be my watchwords.

   

with a total strength of over 60,000 Students. It is significant to note that Girl students constitute 50 % and Rural students constitute 74% of our Student population.The University bears the names of Madurai , the cultural capital of Tamil Nadu and Bharat Rathna Thiru Kamaraj, a statesman par excellence and Champion of the downtrodden. Thiru . Kamaraj gave the following simple advice to his ministers. ”Face the problem, Don’t evade it. Find a solution however small advice of Thiru. Kamaraj holds good even today for all of us. “ A University stands for Humanism and Tolerance, for Reason, for Adventure of ideas and for the Search of Truth”- These historic words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Provide the guiding principle for our University.

 
 

I firmly believe that our students must develop the 21st Century Skills, Including Knowledge of information and Communication Technology, Problem Solving Critical Thinking and Collaboration . Quality Education to all including the rural and Disadvantaged segments of our community will be the focus of my attention, as envisaged by UGC in its 11th plan. It will be relevant here to recall the words of Swami

   

Concrete efforts will be made to implement the choice based Credit System (CBCS) evolved by the Tamil Nadu State Council for higher Education and also to realize the XI plan goals of access, Equity, Relevance, Quality and Excellence, e- Governance and “Inclusive Education’. In the months to come, the University will be poised for exploring new dimensions of institutional accomplishment,

The Years since the foundation of Madurai Kamaraj University in 1966 have been marked by landmark achievements and an abiding commitment to high academic standards. Spread over 736 acres of land with unique intellectual legacy, our University has earned national and international reputation due to the academic leadership of this illustrious eminent faculty of its 18 Schools comprising 73 Departments, the strong Distance Education Directorate with a total enrolment of 1.2 lakhs and the 116 affiliated colleges

   

by renovating its academic system, reinforcing and augmenting its teaching, research and extension coordinated manner, to keep pace with international standards in these areas and endow human resource with digital capabilities to serve the nation in the special context of the challenges and imperatives of Globalization.

I earnestly solicit the collaboration and contribution of all the interested academia to join hand with us in our march towards academic excellence.
