 About the Department

Department of Journalism and Science Communication offer M.Sc. Communication and Journalism. This two year PG programme trains students in the field of journalism and communication. The purpose of the course is to educate and train students, from all over the India, to become proficient professional journalists. The department prepares them to perform in various streams like Print, Television, New Media and Radio. The department also educates scholars of communications and journalism, and functions as an intellectual guiding force in journalism and mass communication through inculcating in its students the habit of thinking of themselves.

Eligibility Minimum Pass in any Degree.

Career Prospects

The course gives scope for getting job in radio, newspapers, film industry, television, advertising agencies and public relations agencies. Many alumni placed in various mainstream media organisations across India.

1. M.Sc., E – Media Communications

M.Sc., E - Media Communications (Electronic Media and Communications) is a job oriented course prepares students to fit with the standards of the media profession. The course has been designed to cater the manpower needs in electronic, online and print media. It involves a practical approach, the ability to practice independently and increase the employability of students.

Students gain exposure from the hands-on teaching and training for Electronic Media, New Media and Broadcasting - Television, Radio and Short Film Production. Reporting, Editing, Advertising, Scripting and writing for media of various types are parts of the curriculum. Students undergo training internships to get the experience par with industry standards.

Opportunities:

After completion of the M.Sc., E- Media Communication course, students can choose to be in the following organizations of media:  Television, Radio Stations, Graphics & Animation Industries, Print Media and Online News Media houses, Mass Media Organizations, Advertising Agencies, Sound and Video Editing, Film Post Productions, Web Designing, E-Content Development & Videography units.

2. M.Phil - Communication Studies.

The Department of Communication offers the unique pre-doctoral programme. Scholars can specialize their research in  any one of the areas of Mass Communication including Electronic, Broadcasting Media, Animation, Advertising Media, Mobile, New Media, Communication etc.,

The course promotes and enhances research qualities and ethical values needed for Media Industry and Media Education.

3. Ph.D – Journalism and Mass Communication

The Department of Communication offers Ph.D Research Degree Programme. Scholars can specialize in any one of the thematic areas of Journalism and Mass Communication including old and new media. Based on their expertise and interests, scholars are encouraged for the distinctive multidisciplinary research approaches.

The department is fully equipped with LCD projector, Multimedia Lab, Video Camera & Digital Camera, Audio system for Sound tracking & Editing. There is a department library fulfilling the needs of the students and scholars.
